The police in Katsina State have remanded one Usman Audu, 50, in prison till next year January 4 for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 7-year-old daughter.
Audu, who hails from Dadin Sauki village in Baure Local Government Area of Katsina State, was arraigned before Katsina Senior Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for rape.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, said Audu committed the offence on December 1, 2017.
The victim’s father, Yazidu Ibrahim, was said to have reported the incident at the Baure Police Division, leading to Audu’s arrest, According to Ado.
Ado, who said the offence contravene Section 283 of the Penal Code of the State, said “Audu lured the girl from where she was hawking items to his bedroom to commit the act.”
The prosecutor, however, said investigation was still in progress, requesting a new date for the case to be mentioned in the court.
The magistrate, Adiza Danja, directed that Audu be remanded in custody and adjourned the case till January 4, 2018.
