The national coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party National Youths Frontiers, Comrade Austin Usman Okai has warned Governor Yahaya Bello against making meaningless comments just to please President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okai said it was ridiculous for governor Bello to think that Buhari is all that is necessary to return him for a second term as governor of Kogi State.
The PDP youth leader was reacting to a recent comment by Bello, who vowed to jump into fire for Buhari.
DAILY POST recalls that Bello while reacting to President Buhari’s decision against the tenure elongation of national chairman, John Oyegun had said ”If Buhari asks me to jump into fire, I will not hesitate to jump into it.”
Comrade Okai while reacting to the statement in Calabar on Friday, said Bello has lost every iota of purposeful and direction.
According to Comrade Okai, “the Kogi State Governor has lost every iota of purposeful and direction. What we have in Kogi State is worse than Somalia. The man is in power inside government house but he is not in charge of the affairs of the state.
“Those in charge are the worst apples in the basket. They have disconnected from the people they should lead. they has failed themselves, the people and the youth of Nigeria.”
Continuing, Comrade Okai remarked that “Gov. Bello consistently refused to see the big picture and today, he believes reducing himself of the assistant janitor of Aso Rock will give him a return ticket.
”His short political destiny is not in the hands of President Buhari. It is in the hands Kogi people. It has been decided and sealed. If he gets the APC ticket, he will encounter an epic organized resistance at the polls.”
According to Him, “Bello is new in the art of sycophancy. He’s an amateur praise singer. Not only is he new, he is an unintelligent and a very slow learner who due to sheer inexperience does not know where to draw the line and which fight not to get into.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday insisted that the Presidency should make public all issues relating to the so-called private visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United Kingdom.
The party, which queried the Presidency for always shrouding issues around the President in secrecy, pointedly demanded a “full disclosure on the scope, purpose, direct destination, duration as well as the cost and source of the funding for this undisclosed tourism.”
A statement by PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan sid President Buhari is not a “private citizen and cannot embark on private trips, wrapped in secrecy, since his upkeep draws directly from national resources and taxpayers’ money.”
The statement reads, “While the PDP has nothing against Mr. President embarking on any trip, we insist that as the President of the Federal Republic, there must be
full disclosures to Nigerians because the citizens deserve to know the purpose of the visit and the cost on the nation.
“We know that Mr. President is billed to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) scheduled to take place between April 16 and
20, but Nigerians are wondering why he is taking off to an undiscloseddestination in London two clear weeks ahead.
“We ask: Is President Buhari and his handlers hiding anything from Nigerians so much so that they cannot disclose the reason and duration of the so-called private visit?
“Nigerians are invited to note that this secret visit has a departure date but silent on the purpose, date and place of arrival.
“Today, our economy is hemorrhaging and the citizens are languishing because of the continued lack of accountability and total incompetence of the Buhari-led administration.
“The PDP insists that public officers at all levels, particularly theoccupier of the office of the President, must be accountable, transparent and answerable in all their dealings at all times, especially under an administration that claims zero tolerance for
The Federal Government has revealed what will happen to looters who joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from other political parties.
Speaking through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the government pointed out that not all the members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who joined the APC were looters.
The Minister said this when he was asked during an interview with Daily Sun if the government will release list of looters in APC. He said all looters whether in APC or any other party will be investigated and punished accordingly.
Mohammed also said some members of the opposition party challenged them to release the list of looters in the PDP, adding that the move has not in any way affected cases in court.
Mohammed said, “There is a difference between allegations and established cases. All the cases I have mentioned (alleged PDP looters) are already in court.
“You see, how many times have people written that Lai Mohammed has billions of dollars. But these are allegations that are just ridiculous.
“I can assure you that if there is any allegation against any member of this government, this government will investigate it.
“It would be unfair to say that everybody that joined APC from PDP is a looter, it would be unfair.
“I am saying that whether you are of ACN stock or PDP stock or CPC stock and you are found to be corrupt, you will be investigated.
“They have said name the looters and we said these people took money.
“I am saying that on the 24th of February, Secondus took N100 million in cash. The then National Financial Secretary took N700 million.
“These are facts! They said name, and I said these are the people that were reported to have stolen money. So, what is prejudicial about it?
“Let them go and solve their matters in court, but if you challenge us to name names, we will name names!”
A former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has declared that he is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The ex-Governor maintained that the Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, being championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is not a political party.
According to Duke, the Obasanjo coalition had members cutting across many political parties.
He spoke at public lecture organized by the Nigeria Movement for Positive Change, NPMC, in Lagos.
Duke pointed out that the coalition was only concerned with sensitizing Nigerians to rise up to the challenges facing the country.
The former Governor said, “Nigeria is like a dam, if that dam should burst, it would flood all of West Africa.
“Our population is more than half of West Africa and it is growing astronomically but our economic indices are not growing as fast, which is the challenge we have.
“As I speak to you, over three million people have registered with the coalition but it is not a political party.
“I am still a member of the PDP for instance; you can belong to any political party.
“All it is trying to do is similar to what NMPC is doing here to sensitize Nigerians to our present circumstance.”
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to a suggestion by Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, that the opposition party has committed enough infraction to get its registration certificate withdrawn by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Mohammed had advocated the withdrawal of the former ruling party’s certificate in a statement issued on Sunday.
The minister in the statement expressed anger over the opposition party’s reaction to the release of Dapchi school girls, saying: “Indeed, there should be a new criterion for withdrawing the registration of a party like the PDP which has failed both as a ruling and an opposition party!”
But in a reaction on Sunday, the PDP in a statement issued by Kola Ologbondiyan, its National Publicity Secretary, alerted the country of what it said was the clandestine plan by the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration to emasculate the opposition and pave way for an alleged self-succession plan of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The statement said, “Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, wherein he demanded that the certificate of registration issued to the PDP by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should be withdrawn because the PDP lost in an election and according to him, does not know how to function as an opposition party.
“We want to alert all Nigerians of a clandestine plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government to strangulate the main opposition party and plot the way for the self-succession plan of their candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Our party has been following all the schemes and shenanigans of the APC as 2019 general elections draw nearer.
“The main plank of the plot is to ensure that President Buhari runs as a sole candidate in 2019. To achieve this grand plan, they must work to exterminate all known and perceived political opposition platforms in our country.
“Is it not strange that a party who, in its almost five years of existence, cannot constitute a Board of Trustees (BoT) in line with the provisions of its own constitution will be asking INEC to withdraw the certificate of a party whose all organs are intact and effectively functioning?
“Is it not also laughable that a party, who cannot hold even a non-elective convention, will be calling for the withdrawal of PDP’s certificate?
“It is imperative to tell Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his cohorts in the APC that any masquerade that dances first will eventually have to watch the dance steps of others from the stand.
“It is clear now that the APC and its Federal Government have come to their wit’s end. All they need to do now is to sit by and watch Nigerians collectively return the PDP to powers and by so doing restore the nation to the path of unity, national cohesion and economic prosperity come 2019.”
The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) should cease to exist as a party.
The Minister noted that the party failed in government and was also failing as an opposition party.
He said this in reaction to the party’s attack on the Buhari government over the abduction of Dapchi girls by Boko Haram.
Mohammed at a press conference on Sunday said: “You are not unaware of the reaction of the naysayers – the main opposition PDP in particular – to the release of the Dapchi girls.
“What called for non-partisan celebrations was rather thoughtlessly turned into politics, bad, despicable politics that has no place in any democracy. At times of national tragedies, countries unite. This is the norm everywhere.
“Let me encapsulate my reaction to the disgraceful and insensitive politics, that the PDP has been playing with the Dapchi girls, by quoting the statement of the President when he received the Dapchi girls last Friday: ”May I also warn against those elements who have chosen to make political fortune of our citizens’ misfortune. Government would not tolerate any attempt by any person or group to trivialize or politicize security issues for politically motivated ends. Accordingly, security agencies would not hesitate to decisively deal with such unscrupulous characters.” Those are very clear words that need no elaboration.
“The PDP and its co-travelers do not understand that terrorism is a global problem. A terror attack on any country is an attack on all countries. The UN was among the first international organizations to condemn the abduction of the Dapchi girls and also among the first to welcome their release.
“Perhaps we should ask the PDP what indeed the party knows about the abduction of the Dapchi girls, going by its statement that their abduction and release were stage-managed.
“The party made itself a laughing stock within and outside Nigeria with that statement. Don’t they know that our international friends are involved in the process that led to the release of the girls?
“Indeed, there should be a new criterion for withdrawing the registration of a party like the PDP which has failed both as a ruling and an opposition party! If a party cannot rule and cannot be in opposition, what else can it do?”
The deputy Senate President, Dr Ike Ekweremadu at the weekend said that no amount of intimidation and blackmail by the All Progressive Congress, APC, will not stop the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from taking over power.
Ekweremadu made this known during the PDP, south east zonal stakeholders’ meeting which took place at the government house Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State.
He decried that the ruling party, APC, was using intimidation and blackmail to witch-hunt opposition parties to gain power in 2019, which according to him, cannot work again in Nigeria.
He said: “We are a party with history and a party with character. We demonstrated this for over sixteen years that we ruled this country. We are proud of our state heritage and we will never lower the standard. We are governing and by next year we will get back to power.
“I thank the south east PDP for the steadfastness you have shown over few years of APC governance in Nigeria.
“I appeal that we continue in the part of honour. The APC government believed that it can capture power by intimidation and blackmail and it has never happened and it will never happen.
“What we will find out in 2019 is that the PDP will be the David that will save Nigeria from the traps of Goliath and no amount of intimidation or blackmail will stop it.”
The deputy Senate President also exonerated himself from the accusations by the Federal Government that he acquired illegal properties within and outside Nigeria.
“As my people, I will tell you the truth. I committed no offence, even though the matter is already in court. I don’t intend to go into details but let me just add that it is only the politics of 2019.
“I want to state clearly that what we are witnessing is unfortunate and embarrassment to us as a country, a situation where a government in power has tried to use established anti corruption agencies to harass and intimidate opposition.
“They decided on their own to use soft tackles which will never be accepted by anybody not within, not outside. What we have found out over two weeks is that bunch of APC lawyers assembled themselves and called themselves panel for the recovery of government properties led by a man that called himself Okoi Obla.
“As a lawyer, I am sure that common sense will tell you that you can never be a judge in your own case. There is no way cats will assemble themselves and say they are going to investigate rats because the rat will never have any justice.
“Obla and his co travellers think we are all very stupid, There is no way Nigeria or international government will watch a panel to track PDP, it will never happen.
“So, I want to appeal that we continue to pray for this country because the days ahead are very worrisome but by the grace of God, we will over come,” he enthused.
Responding, the chairman South East Governor’s Forum, Chief David Umahi applauded all governors in the PDP controlled states especially in South east for their good works done.
“All PDP governors are performing and what they are doing are glaring in the south east and in the eleven states they are controlling.
“I suggested to the national chairman (Uche Secondus) that we should do a documentary of the achievements of PDP right from when we started under Obasanjo, that of Yar` adua, Jonathan and look at the current states controlled by the PDP now,” he said.
He noted that the said documentary will show Nigerians the difference of what PDP had achieved and was still achieving and what it intended to achieve more.
In attendance were Enugu state governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Deputy Senate President, Dr Ike Ekweremadu, among other prominent stakeholders from the south east zone.
The chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi State chapter, Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi yesterday accused former President Olusajun Obasanjo of an attempt to arm twist Nigerians into installing a President of his choice in the forth coming 2019 general election.
Nwebonyi made this known in Abakaliki through a statement issued to journalists.
The chairman called on former President Obasanjo to immediately apologize to the PDP which made him and gave him the status he was currently enjoying as a statesman in the country, adding that it was shameful for him to have left a party that made him a two term President not minding his inordinate ambition to elongate his tenure in office.
The state read in part: “While I agree with Obasanjo on the call for President Buhari to shelve his second term ambition, I disagree with him on his call for a coalition – third force. that call is not premised on good intention for Nigeria, it is premised on selfishness.
He wants to remotely install the next President of Nigeria. It is clear that Obasanjo is indirectly looking for a way to remain active in partisan politics.
“Obasanjo was made the President of Nigeria by the PDP, where he served the first two terms in the present democratic dispensation. But I am sure he cannot boast of any significant input he has made to the PDP as a political party.
“When things were not working out as he personally wanted, he tore his PDP membership card and vowed never to engage in partisan politics. He took the unusual step and worked against the political party that made him President for eight years. That is unpatriotic.
“Obasanjo is not even a statesman as people think. He is a selfish fellow and a fair weather friend. One expects that Obasanjo, having benefitted so much from PDP, should not be in a hurry to tear his membership card. He is supposed to be an asset to the PDP now. But because he is not mature in reasoning, though mature in age, Jonathan has taken up that role.
“As a matter of fact, Obasanjo should without delay apologize to the PDP which gave him the status he enjoys today. It will be a shameful thing for him, as he is getting older, not to settle with the PDP which made him President of this country for eight years and assume the role of an elder statesman which he should be.
“He should stop political prostitution for his is too big for that. If he thinks things are not well with the PDP, it is incumbent upon him having been the leader of the party for eight years, o make sacrifices and settle the problem.
“He doesn’t want the stress of handling intra party crises, but to come up with a kangaroo political formation like the APC, where strange bed fellows with divergent political ideologies
come together to make Nigeria,” he stated.
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Uche Secondus, has challenged the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to show Nigerians evidence of its developmental impact on the country within the last three years.
He said this while speaking as a special guest at the commissioning of the 8.4 kilometers reconstructed Ughelli-Afiesere-Ofuoma, road project in Ughelli North Local Government of Delta State, yesterday.
Secondus noted that the APC had not only failed to fulfil its campaign promises to Nigerians but had succeeded in inflicting untold hardship on the people because they took over power at the centre using propaganda.
“I believe and as the whole country can see that while we are here to commission projects that are directly affecting the lives of the people, the other party is somewhere up-north looking for support with nothing to show.
“I believe that at this stage for three years, the Federal Government should show clearly what they have done like what we have witnessed here today.
“APC should go to commission projects and not to look for support and people who will decamp,” he added.
